چکیده
The Moving Finite Element method for the solution of time-dependent partial diierential equations is a numerical solution scheme which allows the automatic adaption of the nite element approximation space with time, through the use of mesh relocation (r-reenement). This paper analyses the asymptotic behaviour of the method for large times when it is applied to the solution of a class of self-adjoint parabolic equations in an arbitrary number of space dimensions. It is shown that asymptotically the method will produce solutions which converge to a xed mesh and it is proved that such a mesh allows an optimal approximation of the slowest decaying eigenvalue and eigenfunction for the problem. Hence it is demonstrated that the Moving Finite Element method can yield an optimal solution to such parabolic problems for large times.

متن کاملAn Adaptive Finite Element Eigenvalue Solver of Asymptotic Quasi-Optimal Computational Complexity
This paper presents a combined adaptive finite element method with an iterative algebraic eigenvalue solver for a symmetric eigenvalue problem of asymptotic quasi-optimal computational complexity. The analysis is based on a direct approach for eigenvalue problems and allows the use of higher-order conforming finite element spaces with fixed polynomial degree. The asymptotic quasi-optimal adapti...
متن کاملAsymptotic Close to Optimal Resource Allocation in Centralized Multi-band Wireless Networks
This paper concerns sub-channel allocation in multi-user wireless networks with a view to increasing the network throughput. It is assumed there are some sub-channels to be equally divided among active links, such that the total sum rate increases, where it is assumed each link is subject to a maximum transmit power constraint. This problem is found to be a non-convex optimization problem and i...
متن کاملAsymptotic Distributions of Estimators of Eigenvalues and Eigenfunctions in Functional Data
Functional data analysis is a relatively new and rapidly growing area of statistics. This is partly due to technological advancements which have made it possible to generate new types of data that are in the form of curves. Because the data are functions, they lie in function spaces, which are of infinite dimension. To analyse functional data, one way, which is widely used, is to employ princip...
متن کاملAsymptotic Behaviour of Optimal Spectral Planar Domains with Fixed Perimeter
We consider the problem of minimizing the kth Dirichlet eigenvalue of planar domains with fixed perimeter and show that, as k goes to infinity, the optimal domain converges to the ball with the same perimeter. We also consider this problem within restricted classes of domains such as n−polygons and tiling domains, for which we show that the optimal asymptotic domain is that which maximises the ...
